EMDR

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It was discovered by Francine Shapiro, Ph.D in 1987. It is a tool I integrate into psychotherapy to help alleviate long-lasting effects of trauma by allowing the mind's natural healing to occur as it reprocesses traumatic memories through the bi-lateral stimulation of the brain.
In 2000 I participated in both levels of training in EMDR and have continued to attend conferences and trainings. When appropriate, many clients have found that EMDR helps them to re-process their traumas and allows healing and deep understanding of themselves to occur. They find it possible, with EMDR and therapy, to decrease the anxiety, fears, shame, depression and pain that result from and remain after trauma. People have reported that the trauma no longer has the same hold on them and that they are able to move beyond it and experience more peace in their lives.

Working with the issues and effects of trauma, abuse and shame have been special interests of mine for my 25+ years in practice. I believe that it is possible to move beyond the hurt and pain, the anger and depression to discover your unique path to growth, change, happiness and fulfillment.
